Twitter Tips to Grow Your Business

Twitter® is a great place to network. Make the most of your tweeting with the following tips.

Set Up
Usernames must be short and sweet. And when you’re limited to 140 characters, every letter counts! Use your real name in order to create authentic connections. Try to use the same name on all social networks, if possible (check http://namechk.com/ for availability).

Personalize your page with a picture. Use the same photo for all social profiles. Lighter backgrounds and a bright color in the corner of your page help make it memorable.

Twitter Time
Tools like Tweetdeck®, Hootsuite® and Seismic®, as well as mobile apps, are a must to manage conversations and tweet on-the-go. Use the “Search” filters to find and follow specific users. Pre-program tweets to send at a specific time with tools like Hootsuite. This is great for sending the same message at different times to accommodate time zones, or to ensure a reminder is sent just prior to a meeting or phone call.

Length of Tweets
Ensure there is room to add “RT @yourusername” by keeping your posts to about 120 characters or less, so you can easily be retweeted.

Daily Dos
Social media is most effective when you’re not always talking about yourself. Use a ratio of 7:1 as your guide (seven about someone/something else, one about your business). Set daily goals to manage your time and objectives, such as:

  • 1–2 tweets about your activities, Vemma business, current blog post, etc.
  • 3 retweets of other’s tweets.

  • Send a DM (Direct Message) thank you to anyone who retweeted you the day before.

  • Review new followers and follow them back.
